Our Story
Athens Family Restaurant has been a beloved part of Beaver Falls since 1980, but our story starts long before that. It began with a dream, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for family, food, and community.
John Apostolis arrived in the U.S. from Chios, Greece, in 1973, following in the footsteps of his father, Costas. Hard work was in their blood—before John even had time to adjust to his new home, his father had him up before dawn, ready to work. That dedication never faded. When John and his brother Aris opened their first restaurant, the Evergreen Café, their homemade chili dogs became a local hit. But John had a bigger vision.

In 1980, he opened Athens Family Restaurant, just days before his wife, Eugenia, arrived from Greece. From the start, it was a true family effort, with long hours, lots of learning, and an unwavering commitment to serving great food. Over the years, Athens has become a home away from home—not just for the Apostolis family, but for generations of customers who walk through our doors.

Our menu is a reflection of our roots, blending Greek specialties with American comfort food. From homemade soups to gyros, stuffed pork chops to our famous chili dogs, every dish is made with care, just like it would be in a Greek kitchen. Today, John still spends his days cooking, Eugenia creates homemade desserts, and their daughter, Marina, helps run the restaurant, keeping the tradition alive.

Athens has always been more than a restaurant—it’s a place where memories are made, friendships are formed, and everyone is treated like family. We know our customers by name, and more often than not, we know their order before they even say it.

After more than 40 years, one thing hasn’t changed: our love for serving this community. Whether you’ve been coming here for decades or it’s your first visit, we welcome you with open arms, full plates, and a little taste of Greece right here in Beaver Falls.
